Competition Overview
The Bassoon Chamber Music Composition Competition (BCMCC) is a competition held approximately every other year for new chamber works that feature the bassoon. All of the winning compositions are available for purchase with links to the publishers on our Music page!
The Inaugural BCMCC was held in 2010, and four winning chamber compositions were selected. The World Premiere Concert took place on June 3, 2011 at the International Double Reed Society Conference at Arizona State University.
The 2012 BCMCC produced three winning chamber compositions, and two compositions received Honorable Mention. The World Premiere Concert took place at on January 19, 2014 at the Meg Quigley Bassoon Symposium in Round Top, Texas.
In 2014, the BCMCC held a special competition for a solo work, open to female composers residing in North America, Central America, and South America. In addition to the winning composition being published and professionally recorded, it was one of the required pieces for the preliminary round of the 2016 Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition.
The 2015 BCMCC produced four winning chamber compositions, and two compositions received Honorable Mention. The BCMCC Premiere Concert took place on March 26th, 2016 at the University of Michigan's School of Music, Theatre & Dance in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
The 2017 BCMCC produced two winning chamber compositions, and two compositions received Honorable Mention. The BCMCC Premiere Concert took place on June 22nd, 2017 at the International Double Reed Society Conference at Lawrence University.
In 2018, the BCMCC held a competition for a solo work, open to female composers from any country. The winning work was a required piece for the preliminary round of the 2019 Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition.
In 2019, the BCMCC produced two winning chamber compositions, and two compositions received Honorable Mention. The BCMCC Premiere Concert took place at Lynn Conservatory’s New Music Festival in Boca Raton, Florida on January 14, 2020.
In 2023, the BCMCC held a competition for a solo work, open to composers around the world. The winning work was a required piece for the preliminary and final rounds of the 2025 Meg Quigley Vivaldi Competition.
